Germany is known for its Christmas markets during the time before Christmas. Usually they are located in town squares with booths for food and drink, Christmas items, and entertainment for the kids. To counteract the cold, Glühwein (mulled wine) is a popular drink for adults.
The markets usually begin during the week before the first Sunday of Advent and end right before Christmas Eve. Pictured here is the Leipziger Weihnachtsmarkt held for the first time since 2019 because of the pandemic, and voted third best Weihnachtsmarkt in Germany. Christmas markets originated in Germany, but are now held in many different places around the world. Here in Houston, we have many small markets around the city on the weekends in December.
