Dear Members, Students, Teachers, and Friends of the German Institute for the Southwest (GIS),
the German school programs in our community are in a state of crisis. While GIS is going strong (knock on wood) and growing at a reasonable rate, the other two German language programs for children that are not associated with GIS are suffering because they lost their respective leases.
German language learning in general has declined in Houston. Many of the private and public high schools no longer teach German as a foreign language. Universities who used to offer German Bachelor of Art degrees have ceased doing so. All of us interested in fostering German language learning have a responsibility to make sure that our youngest ones have a place to learn the language.
Please take the time to read about the space requirements of the German American Elementary School, and if you know of someone having a space, or a church who could lease its Sunday school classrooms during the week, please contact their President Bianca Reich at bianca@reich-realty-intl.com right away.
“Dear Church Members, dear Property Committee Members,
we would like to lease your Sunday school classrooms during the week for our small nonprofit preschool program.
The preschool program consists of a multi-age classroom specializing in German – English language acquisition for children 2-5 years of age, and runs on Mondays – Fridays with a low child-teacher ratio of 8:1. We have 16 students per classroom, where German and English native speakers provide the children with activities in both languages throughout the school day. We are licensed through the state of Texas and carry liability insurance for the school. Our program is well organized with dedicated teachers and parents.
This amazing program has been in existence since 2006; for the last 10 years it was located in the Montrose area. We lost our lease as of July 2017, because the building is being sold. The Preschool needs a new home for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year or we have to close our doors.
What we are looking for:
- 1-3 classrooms (based on size) on the first floor
- Accessible bathroom facilities
- A fenced-in area that can be used for outdoor recess
- School year 2017-2018: August 15, 2017 – June 23, 2018
- We are looking to start leasing in August 2017 for the next school year and, if possible, with the option of extending the stay.
Operating hours are on Mondays and Fridays between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m
We kindly ask your church to consider us as future tenant to keep this amazing program alive for our families, teachers and the Houston community. I would be more than happy to visit with you and present our program to you
