Five Exciting Online Workshops for Children and Teens during the Fall and Holidays

In addition to our popular German classes for children and teens, we have developed a great series of online workshops for the term. Take a look and sign up your children and teens as soon as possible. 30 Jahre Deutsche Einheit – 30 Years German Unification – Let’s Have a Party!

Workshop for teenagers between 10 and 16 years

The students will explore the historical background of German Unification through a variety of interactive activities, and experience how Germany celebrates October 3, Tag der Deutschen Einheit.

  • Craft materials needed: white paper, a piece of cardboard (about 4 in x 4 in), scissors, ruler, glue stick, pencil, colorful crayons (at least: black, red and yellow)

Wir feiern Sankt Martin! – We Celebrate St. Martin’s Day!

Workshop for children 5 and older, and the whole family

 

Ein bisschen so wie Martin
Moecht’ ich manchmal sein
Und ich will an andre denken
Ihnen auch mal etwas schenken
Nur ein bisschen, klitzeklein
Moecht ich wie St. Martin sein

. . . ich gehe mit meiner Laterne . . .

When fall slowly turns into winter, and the cold and the early dark make the hours before bedtime so long and lonely, children in Germany bring some light and happiness into everybody´s lives when celebrating a festival of lights on St. Martin`s Day.

During this workshop children will hear the legends of St. Martin, discover the German traditions around this festivity and build their own St. Martin`s lantern.

Young participants will need a helping hand during the craft activity.

  • Craft materials needed: scissors, glue stick, pencil, colorful crayons, 2 paper soup bowls, tissue paper (any color), stapler

Advent, Advent, ein Lichtlein brennt! – Advent, a small but bright Light Emerges in the Dark of Winter!

Workshop for children between 5 and 10 years

 

Advent, Advent,
ein Lichtlein brennt!
Erst eins, dann zwei, dann drei, dann vier,
dann steht das Christkind vor der Tür!

Students are invited to get together into the spirit of Christmas and explore seasonal traditions of German speaking cultures with lots of playful activities. As a little helper of the “Weihnachtsmann” and the “Christkindl,”, they will make a small Christmas present.

Younger children will need a helping hand during the craft activity.

  • Date: Saturday, November 21, 2020
  • Time: 2:00 – 3:00
  • 10 participants
  • Craft materials needed: Colorful cardstock paper, yarn scraps, scissors, glue stick, pencil, round templates of different sizes (e.g. cup, empty can, …), a few craft beads big enough for yarn scraps

Heute ist Nikolausabend da! – Tonight St. Nick Visits all the Children in the World

Workshop for children between 5 and 10 years

bald ist Nikolausabend da,
bald ist Nikolausabend da!

Students will hear the legends of St. Nikolaus, and celebrate this special day during the Advent season in Germany with interactive games, songs and crafts.  Young participants will need a helping hand during the craft activity.

  • Craft materials needed:  an apple, a whole walnut or a foam ball (same size), wooden toothpicks, cotton wool, red and white paper, scissors, glue stick, pencil, black marker
